Nathania Nangala Granites belongs to the Yuendumu community, located 290 km northwest of Alice Springs in the Northern Territory. The Dream depicted in this painting belongs to the Warlukurlangu territory, southwest of Yuendumu. Women of the Nampijinpa/Nangala subsections hold custodial responsibility for it.

In this ancestral myth, an old Blue-tongue Lizard man (Tiliqua multifasciata, also called Lungkarda), from the Jampijinpa skin group, lived on a hill with his two Jangala sons. The old man pretended to be blind and sent his two sons hunting in his place. Meanwhile, he went hunting himself and ate everything he found before his sons returned. One day, after a long chase, the two sons returned with a kangaroo. They did not know that this kangaroo was sacred to Lungkarda, the old lizard man.

The old man became furious and decided to punish his two sons. He started a bushfire, sending them running for several kilometers, their frantic flight sometimes propelling them into the air. The two young men tried to fight the flames as best they could, but the old man’s magic kept the fire alive. Exhausted, the two young men were ultimately engulfed by the flames.
