This artwork reflects the meeting of two cultures: the influence of Aboriginal culture is evident when Annie Franklin chooses a bird’s-eye view to depict the serpent, a foundational animal in Aboriginal mythology. In contrast, she adopts the frontal perspective typical of Western art to represent other endangered species, some of which, like the Kangaroo, are found only on this island continent.
