Yvonne's mother bequeathed her the right to depict these motifs, inspired by paintings found on the walls of a cave near Ngallagunda (literally “snake head”). The cave features two painted snakes and three Wandjinas, deities of the air and water in the form of owls. Even today, Aborigines invoke them to bring rain and revive the land in times of drought. The artist has chosen to paint with natural pigments - as his ancestors did in the caves - to symbolize his unbreakable ties with his past.
