Born in Pakistan to Australian parents, G.W. Bot lived in many countries until the age of twenty, following her father, who was in the military. She studied art in London, Paris, and Australia. Since 1985, she has lived and worked in Canberra, where she has developed a deep attachment to the land—now the central theme of her work. In a manner reminiscent of Australian Aboriginal traditions, she adopted a totem: the wombat, a small animal native to the Canberra region. The name "G.W. Bot" is derived from the term “Grand Wam Bot,” used by early French explorers to describe the wombat.
Linocut, a technique she discovered in London, has remained her preferred medium. Through it, she has developed a unique visual language—a personal calligraphy where her dreamlike vision of the land merges with her deep sensitivity.
