Grace Butcher Napangardi presents in these paintings a version of the Pikilyi Dreaming, a sacred site featuring a waterhole and a creek near Yuendumu. According to legend, a pair of Rainbow Serpents lived there. Women would remove lice attached to the bodies of these mythical beings, and in return, they were granted the right to take water from the creek.

To this day, Aboriginal people continue to hold ceremonies at this site, where the spirits of the two serpents are believed to reside.

On the canvas, the undulating lines represent the flowing water of the river, while the black teardrop shapes likely symbolize the lice that once clung to the serpents.
