Ursula Hudson presents in these paintings a version of the Dream of Pikilyi, a sacred site featuring a waterhole and a creek not far from Yuendumu. According to legend, a pair of Rainbow Serpents lived there. Women would remove lice from the bodies of these mythical beings, and in return, they were granted the right to take water from the creek.
Aboriginal people still hold ceremonies at this site, where the spirits of the two serpents continue to reside.
On the canvas, the wavy lines represent the flowing water of the river, while the black teardrop-shaped forms likely symbolize the lice that clung to the serpents.
