Born in Pakistan to Australian parents, G.W. BOT lived in many countries before the age of twenty, following her father’s military assignments. She studied art in London, Paris, and Australia. Since 1985, she has lived and worked in Canberra, where she developed a deep attachment to the land - a connection that has become the central theme of her work.
Inspired by the traditions of Australian Aboriginal cultures, she adopted a totem of her own: the wombat, a small native animal from the Canberra region. The artist’s name, G.W. BOT, is derived from the term “Grand Wam Bot,” an early French reference to the wombat.
Linocut, a technique she discovered while studying in London, remains her preferred medium. Through it, she has developed a unique visual language - an intimate calligraphy that blends a dreamlike vision of the landscape with profound sensitivity.
