Kathleen is one of the major artists of the contemporary Aboriginal art movement, and was one of the first Aboriginal artists to be given a solo exhibition at Sydney's highly prestigious Museum of Contemporary Art in 2001.
Her work expresses to the highest degree the blend of aesthetic sense and sacred inspiration that is feminine Aboriginal painting in the great communities of the Australian desert. The artist's clan territory is presented here as if seen from the sky: in fact, this style, inspired by the ground paintings traditionally produced during religious ceremonies, is referred to as a satellite vision. The cross-shaped composition divides the canvas into four sections, each representing a different stage in the wanderings of the Wild Lizard. This canvas is a veritable mystical cartography that unfolds before our eyes.
