In this story, Geraldine Granites has depicted various species of birds (jurlpu) that live in the Yuendumu region, in Australia's central desert.
The bush around Yuendumu provides diverse habitats for these birds (rivers, trees, bushes, cliffs, etc.) which the Aborigines feed on. Birds such as the rattle-tail also inform the Aborigines by their behaviour of the imminent arrival of rain. The brown hawk is reputed to be able to make children sick with its simple cries. Finally, the songs of the yellow-necked raptors warn hunters of the presence of monitor lizards, which the Aborigines feed on.
