Lisa Cook Nampijinpa, from the Yuendumu community in the Australian desert, depicts in this work the Dreaming, or Jukurrpa, of the Yarla Ancestor, a wild edible potato. This fibrous tuber grows beneath low-lying plants, often found in soil crevices, and is associated with the Cockatoo Creek site east of Yuendumu.

According to legend, during the Dreamtime, the mythic period of creation for Aboriginal people, the Yarla Ancestor (wild potato) and the Wapirti Ancestor (bush carrot) clashed near Ngarparapunyu, a sacred swamp.
