Vanetta Hudson Nampijinpa depicts here the Dream specific to the Warlukurlangu territory, southwest of Yuendumu, where she originates. The Jampijinpa/Jangala women hold custodial responsibility for it.

A wise old blue-tongue lizard (Tiliqua multifasciata, also called Lungkarda), from the Jampijinpa clan, lived on a hill with his two Jangala sons. The old man pretended to be blind and sent his sons hunting on his behalf, while he consumed all the food before their return.

One day, after a long hunt, the two sons returned with a kangaroo, unaware that this kangaroo was sacred to the Lungkarda. The elder became enraged and decided to punish them. He started a bushfire, chasing them across several kilometers, their frantic flight sometimes propelling them into the air. The sons struggled against the flames, but the old man’s magic kept the fire alive. Exhausted, the two young men were ultimately consumed by the flames.

In contemporary Aboriginal painting, traditional symbolism endures. Vanetta Hudson Nampijinpa represents sacred sites from Dreamtime stories: Warlukurlangu (the cave and residence of the elder), Kirrkirrmanu (where the kangaroo was killed), Wayilililnypa (where the two young men perished), and Marnimarnu (a swamp where the young men camped).
