Gulumbu is a globally recognized painter. She won first prize at the prestigious Telstra National Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Art Award in 2004 and was later selected, along with seven other Aboriginal artists, to participate in the highly esteemed public commission for the façades and ceilings of the Musée du Quai Branly. Outside Australia, her prints - which have established her as one of the finest printmakers from East Arnhem Land - are less known. In this work, she explores the theme of the gan’yu, stars that hold profound symbolic significance for her people.
