After beginning her career with bark painting, Kate was trained by Western master printmakers. She proved to be an outstanding printmaker and has since continued to produce etchings. Here, she has chosen to depict a turtle, an animal frequently found in her native region, highly significant in Aboriginal mythology, and also considered a delicacy.

This work skillfully incorporates linear patterns inspired by the crosshatching motifs known as rarrk, drawn from ceremonial body painting and traditional bark painting.
