This linocut was used as a model for the monumental 17-metre x 40-metre vinyl installation that was affixed to the roof of Monaco's Oceanographic Museum for the 2016 exhibition, ‘Australia: defending the oceans’, for which Alick Tipoti was one of the main actors.
Throughout 2016, the Oceanographic Museum's main theme was the preservation of sea turtles. The linocut and monumental installation of Tipoti's work ‘Sowlal’ (the turtle's mating season) pay tribute to this theme: the turtles' way of life - their courtship, mating and nesting.
