Originally from the Maningrida community in Central Arnhem Land (northern Australia), Paul Nabulumo evokes here the mythological story of the lunar cycles. In the Dreamtime, the ancestral figure of the Rainbow Serpent sank into the rock, leaving a hole of perfect circumference, thus creating the very shape of the full moon. The Moon-Man debated the fate of humanity with the Speckled Quail. The Quail decided that it would be mortal and transformed itself into a star, while the Moon would find its place in the sky and continue to live forever.
This work was exhibited at the Musée d'Art Contemporain les Abattoirs in Toulouse as part of the ‘Dreamtime’ exhibition in 2009.
