Long Tom Tjapanangka draws a landscape, certainly inspired by the hills of his native region, which form the background to his canva.
But the title of the work ("Mythical Landscape") makes it clear that it's less a question of a real site than of its reinterpretation. Indeed, the meadow sown with flowers in the foreground, the trees with their bright green foliage, evoke an eternal spring or summer - that of the paradise that, for the aborigines, was the moment of the world's creation, which their painting not only celebrates but also symbolically brings back to life.
This particular dimension is symbolized by the white border that surrounds the canva, making it a sacred space-time.
