The Dream (Jukurrpa) of the Bush Carrot (Ngarlajiyi) linked to the sacred site of Waputarli - west of Yuendumu - is showed here. This small edible tuber can be found near the marshes. We know nothing about this legend, which is known only to the initiated, but it is important enough for women to have used it as a motif for body paint, which they apply during religious ceremonies.
The concentric circles in the four corners of the canvas represent the fruits (ngarlajiyi) of the plant, while the central circle symbolises Yilkirdi, the sacred watering hole found in Waputarli territory, where religious ceremonies are still held to perpetuate the legend.
