The Ngara series takes its name from the Gadigal word ngara, meaning 'to see, think and feel'. This term goes beyond simply describing an action; it encapsulates the Gadigal people's philosophy of life. It evokes the idea of sitting in a space and meditating on the slowness and deep knowledge required to transform a natural element into something useful to humans.
Konstantina's work is remarkable, using matt and glossy acrylics to create a particularly rich and subtle textural effect. The interplay of light and relief in the material evokes the textures of pearls or shagreen, and suggests dense vegetation composed of multiple landscape layers. This visual language combines traditional Aboriginal art motifs with a figurative dimension embodied by foliage.
