Lola Nampijinpa Brown was born in Ti-Tree, a small community in Australia's Northern Territory, 193 km north of Alice Springs. Here she evokes the Dreaming (Jukurrpa) of Water (Ngapa) linked to Mikanji, a river that dries up most of the year and contains swamps. Legend has it that an Ancestor from north-west Yuendumu went to Mikanji and unleashed a huge storm. Two old blind women raised their eyes to the sky and began to cry, creating the rain. Their spirits are still present here in the form of two trees (gum trees) that can be seen near the marshes.
