Wendy Brown Nungarrayi illustrates in this painting both the “Seven Sisters Dream” (Napaljarri-Warnu Jukurrpa) and the “Star Dream” (Yanjirlpirri Jukurrpa).
The “Seven Sisters Dream” corresponds, for Aboriginal people, to the seven stars of the Taurus constellation, also known as the Pleiades. These seven stars personify seven ancestral sisters of the Napaljarri clan. An individual from the Jakamarra group, Jukurra-Jukurra, symbolized by the Morning Star, is enamored with them and is generally depicted pursuing them across the sky. To escape him, the Seven Sisters transformed into flames and rose to the sky, becoming stars.
