Murrira Gadigal refers to line or corded string, usually made from the bark of the endemic hibiscus or kurrajong tree. This series is inspired by the reconstruction of original Gadigal practices, the result of a multi-year project conducted with the British Museum and Konstantina, based on objects preserved in the Museum's collections.
Konstantina created this work while learning how to make traditional rope. It thus bears witness to the ancestral knowledge, practices, and wisdom of my people's culture. The work is presented as a physical annotation, a living memory of this culture, establishing a tangible link between the past and the present.
