The artist depicts in this painting the Dreaming (Jukurrpa) of the Red Kangaroo (Marlu) connected to the sacred sites of Yarnardilyi and Jurnti (Mount Dennison). During the Dreamtime, an ancestral kangaroo set up its camp at Jurnti and would travel around the area during the day to feed, particularly on young grass shoots and bush cucumbers, which grow beneath mulga trees that the Warlpiri – the artist’s clan – use for medicinal purposes.
