Fiona Omeenyo was born in August 1981. She comes from Lockhart River, Queensland, Australia. She is one of the founding members of the Lockhart River Art Gang, on the east coast of Cape York in far north Queensland. Fiona paints ancestral spirits and also dedicates some of her works to the Parrot Sisters story from her Country. She developed her artistic practice during the formative years of Lockhart River’s artistic emergence in the 1990s and has established herself both in Australia and internationally within the field of contemporary Aboriginal art. Her work has been widely exhibited in Australian galleries since she won her first art award in 2001.

In this painting, the artist depicts her Country and evokes the ancestral connections to the Great Barrier Reef and the sea.
