Sarah White celebrates the sacred territory of Purrupurru, north of Yuendumu, where Aboriginal women come to gather bush onions (Janmarda).

Legend has it that in the Dreamtime, the women ancestors who came to Purrupurru to gather Janmarda saw an old ancestor of the Jungarrayi lineage, Warungurla, watching them from behind a bush. Wanting to seduce them, he inserted his very long penis (ngirnti) into the ground and pulled it out near the women. Panicked, the women began to beat his penis with their sticks until they killed Warungurla, who can still be seen today in Purrupurru in the form of a large rock.

The concentric circles that punctuate this painting represent onion bulbs seen from the sky, which seem to stretch out infinitely and give the canvas great energy.
