Originally from Hopevale, an Aboriginal community on Cape York, Roy McIvor is a sculptor, painter, and engraver. Like many artists from the north coast, he draws inspiration from the Dreamtime deities that his ancestors drew thousands of years ago on the walls of caves and sacred rocks in the region.
In this work, he depicts various Great Ancestors of his clan: dugongs, crustaceans, and fish swimming against a black background dotted with shells and starfish.
