Dennis refers here to the currents that flow through the western Torres Strait and their effect on the feeding habits of dugongs. At night, the ocean currents change in rhythm with the solar system. Starting at 7 p.m., a strong current gathers the dugongs into a herd led by the pack leader, the Barracutau Garrka. Around 1 a.m., when the Milky Way begins to rotate, the current subsides, allowing the animals to swim, play, and eat as they please. It is difficult for hunters to locate dugongs at night when the current is weak and they are feeding safely on the reefs. This is a pleasant time for the animals, which can be seen here swimming in all directions, enjoying their freedom to the fullest. This euphoria is reflected in the energy of the composition.
