In this work, Niah Juella McLeod positions her artistic practice within a transgenerational continuity, where cultural heritage and personal experience are intimately interwoven. “Gurad, Bagan – Earth Ground” evokes both a deep connection to the land and a spiritual journey rooted in the Dreamtime — the sacred era of creation and the foundation of Aboriginal knowledge systems. The artist adopts a figurative approach, characterized by a fine lattice of leaves, a motif in her work that evokes both the tree of life and the branching connections of family and spirit. This delicate vegetal network serves as a metaphor for transmission — across generations, and between the living and their ancestors.
