GW Bot is a renowned Australian artist whose prints, paintings, and sculptures explore both topographic and metaphysical relationships with the environment, often serving as allegories for life’s journey. Her work is marked by strong silhouettes, natural tones, and intricate glyphs, symbolic forms that reflect her deep connection with the Australian landscape.
Printmaking, especially linocut, is her primary medium, valued for its flexibility and rhythmic patterns. Her artistic name, GW Bot, derives from a historical French reference to the wombat (“le grand Wam Bot”), reflecting her respect for Aboriginal totemic traditions.
Bot studied in London, Paris, and Australia, graduating from the Australian National University in 1982, and has worked full-time as an artist since 1985. She has exhibited widely in Australia, Europe, the US, and Asia, and her works are held in over 100 public collections, including prestigious institutions like the National Gallery of Australia, the British Museum, the Victoria and Albert Museum, and Harvard's Fogg Museum.
