Originally from Haasts Bluff, in the heart of the Australian desert, Benita Multa Napurrula belongs to a community of artists who celebrate their homeland, from which they were dispossessed following various population displacements. Less realistic than imagined, these landscapes - depicted frontally rather than from above, as is usually the case - have the warm colors and naive forms of a lost paradise. The abundance of oak trees in the desert evokes the fertility of the land and the hidden riches of this territory surrounding the sacred site of Kunkayunti.
