Aboriginal shields were used to protect against boomerang and war club blows from opponents. These shields are often small in size and do not cover the entire body of the Aboriginal warrior. In fact, they were used to deflect blows from their enemies, much like a bat or racket.
Furthermore, the different shapes and sizes of the shields also indicate that warriors used them offensively. As the Aboriginals did not know how to work with metal, their shields were made of wood. These were engraved or painted with designs intended to frighten and impress their enemies.
