Biography

Simon Namunjdja is a sculptor from the Maningrida arts community in Arnhem Land. His work stands out for the exceptional refinement of his carvings and the meticulous dot-painted motifs that adorn them.

Artists from Arnhem Land particularly those from Maningrida are renowned for their depictions of the tall, slender ancestral beings known as Mimih, spiritual figures associated with the Dreaming, the sea, and the cosmos. Within this tradition, Simon brings remarkable precision and delicacy to each of his pieces.

As part of the younger generation of the renowned Namunjdja family, he carries forward their strong legacy of exquisite mark-making, technical mastery, and attention to detail.
