Biography

Ruth Bindeidbal comes from a prominent artistic family in Maningrida, Arnhem Land. She is the youngest daughter of artists H. Karrkarrbha and J. Wurrkidj, and is married to fellow artist Obed Namirrkki, himself the son of artist Ivan Namirrkki and grandson of the renowned Peter Marralwanga.

Like many members of her family, Ruth works across multiple mediums, creating both sculptures and bark paintings. She learned the intricate rarrk cross-hatching technique under the guidance of her mother and her late father. Her practice includes the depiction of Mimih spirit figures, which she adorns with the traditional geometric designs of Western Arnhem Land, each motif carrying deep ritual and clan significance.
