Biography

Ollie (or Ally) is one of the most dynamic women in the Utopia community. Her work reflects the different artistic trends that have developed in Utopia, in the central desert 240 km north-west of Alice Springs. Batik, successfully introduced in 1977, was succeeded by acrylic paint on canvas ten years later. Ollie Kemmare's work demonstrates her mastery of both techniques. For example, the artist uses both the classic ‘stippling’ technique of the central desert and a way of applying colours in long, flowing strokes as on the silk of batik.
