Biography

George Raftopoulos is an Australian artist whose expressive, semi-figurative painting explores themes of identity, migration, and cultural heritage. Born in Sydney in 1972 and raised in a context shaped by cultural otherness, his background informs his artistic practice. Trained at the University of Western Sydney and the Sydney College of the Arts, he develops a body of work that merges Greek mythology with contemporary narratives. His paintings combine abstraction and figuration and incorporate text in Greenglish, a hybrid form of expression blending Greek and English. Exhibited internationally, his work examines colonial legacies and migratory dynamics.
