Dorothy NAPANGARDI was a leading Aboriginal painter from the Yuendumu community whose works are regularly exhibited in Australia, the United States and Europe. Considered one of the major artists of the contemporary Aboriginal art movement, Dorothy Napangardi's works are highly prized worldwide by collectors and curators. All of her work has earned her multiple awards, including first place in the prestigious Telstra National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Art Award in Australia in 2001. Dorothy's works can be found at the National Gallery of Australia (Canberra ), at the National Gallery of Victoria (Melbourne), at the Art Gallery of South Australia and in France, at the Musée des Confluences in Lyon. Dorothy Napangardi was born in the Mina Mina region, in the Tanami Desert, west of Yuendumu. She lived a nomadic life there with her family, feeding on wild berries and drinking in the swamps and water holes that were numerous in the region after the rainy season.
