This artist's book presents a text by the Russian poet K.D. Balmont who visited Australia in 1912. Balmont was horrified by the destruction of nature by white Australians in search of economic prosperity. He wrote this poem as an appeal to the white man to remember what Australia was like before this destruction. When this book was completed in 2007, G.W. Bot remarked that this call still does not seem to have been heard. This book also evokes, through engravings, the Australian landscape around Canberra where GW Bot lives. This landscape is sparse and rugged, but incredibly fragile and delicate. For the artist, it is an allegory for the way people live in this landscape.
