Visionary Designs
6 September to 15 November
Polaris Metropolitan Art Centre in Istres

Opening on Saturday 6 September at 11.30am
with a performance by Guillaume Bath, 'Bottling a Sculpture'

Group exhibition bringing together more than fifty artists as part of the 2025 Drawing Season.

Through this exhibition, the Polaris Art Centre and the Musée de l'Invisible offer you a new approach to the art of drawing, favouring a more sensory, energetic and emotional experience. The project brings together artists from different generations who revisit the concept of visionary drawing. Their approach opens up new perspectives on artistic practice, exploring in particular how art can create links between our inner and outer worlds.

Visionary drawing embodies a little-known dimension of art: that of creative energy. Often considered the primary and ultimate expression of a work, visionary drawing expresses its quintessence. It fascinates when it crystallises the magic of artistic impulse and its mysteries. It is often linked to an artistic destiny that is difficult to escape, when art becomes a vital necessity. But visionary drawing is rarely explored in such depth. What is a vision? How does it come about and why, or how can it be transcribed? How do we use and interpret it today through our culture of images, imagination and art?

In response to these questions, Dess(t)ins visionnaires will explore the phenomenon of visionary drawing through a unique experimental exhibition, combining contemporary art, art brut and primitive art.
