Aboriginal sculpture
the YawkYawk are young girls quite resembling our mermaids who, in the Dreamtime, left the waters where they lived to go on land to search for their food.
The work evokes the dual anthropomorphic and fishy dimensions of the YawkYawk quite precisely: it seems, in fact, to grasp it at the moment when its tail fins turn into legs. The verticality of the sculpture also emphasises this aspect of the myth.
