Of Italian origin, Wilma Tabacco arrived in Australia at the age of four. She studied business at Melbourne University. In 1979, she undertook a degree in Fine Art at the Philip Institute in Melbourne and in 2006 she obtained her doctorate. Wilma Tabacco soon began teaching painting and drawing at universities in Melbourne and Hong Kong as part of an international education program.

In these works she expresses in an abstract way the vibrations of the Australian water, earth and air which seem, as here, to mingle. The result is iridescent effects reminiscent of the Japanese folds that the artist likes so much. From her extremely fluid lines, others are born and superimposed, as if to give us a glimpse of the "fifth dimension" of the continent.

She has received several grants from the Australia Council Visual Arts and Craft Board, including a studio residency in Italy, and has also worked and exhibited in Seoul during an Asialink residency in Korea. In 2011 she established a contemporary gallery space in Melbourne with Irene Barberis called Langford120.

Wilma Tabacco is an established artist. She has participated in numerous solo and group exhibitions around the world. Some of her works are now held in Australian and international collections: Museum of Modern Art at Heide (Australia), National Gallery of Victoria (Australia), Queen Victoria Museum & Art Gallery (Australia), private collections (France, Italy, USA) etc.
