Walter Jangala Brown was born in 1977 in Yuendumu, a remote Aboriginal community 290 km northwest of Alice Springs in NT Australia. He comes from a long line of artists, including Pintupi artist Ronnie Tjampitjinpa, a highly regarded painter and founder of the Papunya Tula artists' group. He painted his father's Ngapa Jukurrpa (Dream of Water), Warna Jukurrpa (Dream of Snake) and Yumari Jukurrpa (a group of rocks located west of Kintore in the Gibson Desert). He also painted his grandfather's Tingari cycle. These dreams are directly related to his land, its features and the plants and animals that inhabit it. |
