Walangkura only came into contact with white people and Western civilisation when she was in her early twenties. Until then, she had lived a semi-nomadic life with her family, just like her ancestors who had learned to survive in an arid environment. She painted this canvas shortly before her death to illustrate the "Dream of the Seven Sisters" which, for the Aborigines, corresponds to the seven stars of the Taurus constellation, also called "Pleiades". Legend has it that these stars were actually sisters from the Napaljarri group who were pursued by a man from another family group.
