Geraldine Granites Napangardi, who has lived in Yuendumu since childhood, honours the myths of her people in her work. The small lines surrounding the star-shaped motifs give this painting a joy and vigour reminiscent of Keith Haring's work. Like most Aboriginal artists from the Central Desert, Geraldine Granites uses dot painting, which is inspired by the traditional paintings on the ground made during ritual ceremonies. The resulting vibratory effect gives the very idea of life and reminds us that for the Aborigines, the Dreamtime does not belong to the past, but that the eternal present, whose art and religious rites ensure its permanence, is above all a continuous creation and energy.
