In the region around Maningrida live different aboriginal clans. They share this land with supernatural beings such as the Mimih spirits whose veneration has been the subject of religious ceremonies since time immemorial. The Aborigines believe that these spirits have a social organisation similar to their own and that Mimih society existed before human society. The Mimih are said to have instructed humans on how to hunt and carve game, how to dance, sing and paint. These spirits are so thin that a gust of wind would be fatal to them.

This work is sculpted from a tree trunk and follows the natural movement of the trunk.
