‘Abie Loy Kemarre has emerged as the star of the third generation of Utopia women painters, an inheritance founded on the art of Emily Kame Kngwarreye and Kathleen Petyarre, Abie’s grandmother. In Abie’s art, the signs and symbols associated with her people’s ancient culture and ceremonies have found new form. Her fine dotting and lines are ephemeral traces and conscious linkages all in one. And the optics at work in her paintings transmit the power of the sacred.
