| Ariew Urual [Créatures de pluie] 2006 Ariew Urual désigne les créatures dont le bruit appelle la pluie. Il s’agit surtout des grenouilles, très présentes dans l’œuvre de Dennis Nona, qui sont également associées aux cérémonies. Dépourvues de marais, les îles de l’est et du centre du Détroit devaient acheter des grenouilles pour les cérémonies d’appel à la pluie. L’île de Badu, riche en cours d’eau et en marais, exportait ainsi ses batraciens. |

Ariew Urual [RainCreature] 2006 Ariew Urual in my language refers to the creatures that make noises for the rain. The main ones, the frog, I use in my artwork. This is a Katubae, and it is also associated with ceremonies. Frogs were traded to the eastern central islands for rain ceremonies because they didn’t have swamps and, which we have on the western Torres Strait, which we are kind of scientifically we are part of the Great Dividing Range, and that’s why I think we have swamps, creeks and rivers on our island of Badu and a lot of the frogs are traded to the central islands for ceremonies to call the rain. |
