Les insulaires en sont très friands. Il existe beaucoup de recettes différentes pour préparer ce poisson : on peut notamment le faire mariner une journée dans du lait de coco avec des oignons et des herbes. Ce poisson doit être partagé et si le partage n’est pas équitable, des bagarres peuvent éclater.

Zaberal [Garfish] 2006: 1 copy available Eau-forte, éd.45, 35 x 25 cm Zaberal is a fish. It’s the garfish. It’s something I wanted to do a work about. Zaberal is a very popular fish for feasting. Most of the ladies catch them. Men catch them sometimes and they are a delicacy to the islanders. It’s my favourite food – everybody’s favourite back home. It’s cooked more than the other fish. There are a lot of different cooking styles to prepare that feast. To prepare it we can marinate it in coconut milk and onion, herbs and things for a day. To enjoy that feast many people get involved. It also can get – it can bring, quarrels on the island – people can get mad with you for a while if you didn’t give, if it’s not been shared. Sharing – some people say, “Oh we didn’t get some.” They get mad with you for a very long time. There are other things associated with this tradition. |
