Le Bu ou "coquillage-trompette" était utilisé comme une trompette pour appeler les villageois à se rassembler ou les prévenir d'un danger imminent. Dans chaque clan ou tribu, un homme appelé "Bungu Mabaig" avait cette responsabilité. Différents coquillages produisant différents sons étaient utilisés selon la nature de la réunion.

On trouve ces coquillages - dont on peut également se nourrir - sur les fonds marins herbeux et les récifs entourant les îles.

Le coquillage était séché et on perçait un trou à son extrémité. On ne l'utilise plus aujourd'hui sauf pour appeler les fidèles à certaines messes.

On peut souffler dans cette sculpture comme dans un vrai Bu.

The Bu or Trumpet Shell was blown like a trumpet to summons the villages together or warn of impending danger. Within each clan or tribe a single member, who was known as the Bungu Mabaig, was given this responsibility. Different size shells that made different sounds were used depending on the nature of the gathering.

The shells are found on the grassy seabeds and reefs surrounding the islands and were also used as a food source.

The shell was dried and a hole fashioned in its tip. It is no longer used today except to summons worshippers to certain church services.

The cast bronze sculpture can be blown like the original Bu.
